Biohacker Summit 2024 Helsinki
Inside the Biohacker Summit: Where science, technology and nature converge to enhance human potential
By Teemu Arina · · Updated

The Biohacker Summit in Helsinki brought together some of the world's leading experts in human optimization, creating a unique confluence of ancient wisdom and cutting-edge technology. As the event celebrated its tenth anniversary, participants were treated to a rich tapestry of knowledge spanning breathwork, traditional samurai philosophy, longevity science, and technological innovations aimed at expanding human potential.
A decade of pushing boundaries
"This is not about being the perfect human, but about going beyond that, accessing higher realms, and asking: What is your purpose? What legacy will you leave behind?" reflected Teemu Arina, curator and co-founder of the Biohacker Center. The summit, which began as a gathering of health optimization enthusiasts, has evolved into a platform where many attendees have gone on to found influential wellness companies.
The event's production featured complex stage designs symbolizing nature and sacred geometry, underscoring a commitment to blending art, technology, and natural harmony—a philosophy that permeates the biohacking movement itself.
Ancient wisdom meets modern science
The Zen Samurai, representing 16 generations of samurai tradition, offered profound insights into harmonizing body and mind through the five elements. "Real samurai do not fight; fighting is revenge, releasing emotion. The true strategy is to harmonize, understand each other, respect each other, catch the feeling from the opponent, and try to avoid the fight," he explained, challenging conventional notions of strength and power.
Breathwork specialist Leigh Ewin explored the evolutionary aspects of human respiration in "Atmospheres of Breath," connecting our ancient aquatic origins to modern respiratory practices. "Breathing is the way your body produces energy; it's not just about oxygen, but about connection, calm, and alchemy within," Ewin noted, highlighting how conscious breathing can influence immune function and promote relaxation.
Longevity frontiers
Dr. Olli Sovijärvi presented his "Top 10 Habits for Longevity," emphasizing sleep quality, circadian rhythm alignment, and nature connection. "Every day is a new beginning. When you go to sleep, you die to your older self. Then you wake up enjoying yourself. Sleep, a good sleep is related to longevity," he said, before detailing how regular sunlight exposure, physical exercise tailored to individual genetic data, and practices like sauna use can activate longevity pathways.
Xander Denys introduced the concept of intermittent oxygen therapy, challenging conventional views on energy management. "Life is not about time management. It's about energy management," he asserted, explaining how techniques like cold plunging and oxygen therapy can combat chronic stress and optimize mitochondrial function.
Technological innovation
Ari Tulla, co-founder and CEO of Elo Health, presented on the intersection of wearables, nutrition, and artificial intelligence. "AI turns real-time data from our bodies into the right actions and supercharges food as medicine and behavior change," he explained, suggesting that AI and wearable technology could potentially extend life expectancy by a decade.
The summit also featured unique innovations like Valentin Ancuta's hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers, which can saturate plasma with up to twelve times more oxygen at two atmospheric pressures, and Eric Puro's medicinal mushroom extracts produced in Finland with proprietary ultrasonication technology to increase bioavailability.
Personal transformation and healing
Some of the most profound moments came from personal stories of transformation. Sorin Schiller shared his journey from a traumatic upbringing in post-communist Romania to discovering that "your struggle is your superpower." His emphasis on maintaining balance across body, mind, and connections resonated deeply with attendees.
Elina Kadaja, a breathwork and trauma therapist, offered practical insights into healing emotional trauma through physical techniques. "Trauma is not what happens to you, but what happens in your body as a response to the event," she explained, demonstrating how breathwork, meditation, and yoga can facilitate healing.
Looking to the future
As the Biohacker Summit concluded, it left participants with a holistic vision that transcended mere physical optimization. The event exemplified how modern biohacking incorporates spiritual growth, ethical responsibility, and ecological awareness to address humanity's future challenges.
"We together shape the future; we must change, fix our traumas and relationship with nature to create something great," urged Arina in his closing remarks, emphasizing that the true purpose of biohacking extends beyond personal enhancement to collective human advancement and sustainable innovation rooted in respect for nature.
The tenth anniversary of the Biohacker Summit not only celebrated a decade of pioneering integrative health approaches but also charted a course for the next frontier of human potential—one that balances technological progress with timeless wisdom.
