Toryo Ito is the Vice-Abbot of Ryosokuin Temple in Kyoto’s Gion district, where he was born and raised. Ordained under his grandfather, he became vice-abbot in 2007. He has guided over 200,000 people in Zazen globally and has introduced contemporary art exhibitions at the temple. His international engagements include leading Zen sessions at Meta and various locations in Europe and Asia. In 2023, he was recognized by Forbes JAPAN and Newsweek for his contributions to Zen and modern initiatives.
